I want everyone to fully understand how fantastic classical music is.  It gets a bad rep, undeservedly.  I would rather be able to let you listen to all these pieces, but some of them aren’t available on youtube.  However, if you’re looking to increase the awesomeness of your music library, here are some ways to do just that:

  • Dvorak’s String Quartet in F Major – his “American Quartet” (amazon link)
  • Corigliano’s Violin Sonata (amazon link)
  • Elgar’s Cello Concerto (amazon link – and actually, speaking of, this album is one of the best I’ve ever heard, ever, of all albums everywhere)
  • Ralph Vaughn Williams’ Lark Ascending for violin and piano (I acquired a copy of the violin and piano reduction from a friend, but I can’t find it to download or buy ANYWHERE, which is a crying shame)
  • Part’s Fratres – any version, though the cello one is my favorite (amazon link)
  • Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major (amazon link)
  • Dvorak’s Piano Quintet in A Major (amazon link)
  • This whole album is awesome – Midori and Robert McDonald Encore! (amazon link)
  • This whole album is also awesome – Rostropovich’s Bach Cello Suites…doesn’t get much better than that, quite honestly (amazon link)
  • Barber’s Adagio for Strings, but only if you can find the string quartet version (the orchestral version is too muddled and heavy).  The Emerson String Quartet performed it for NPR, which is where I heard it (so. gorgeous.) but I can’t find a recording of it.
