Soooo…without television (which I still assert was a great boost for my productivity and concentration), I find myself spending a lot more time online to amuse myself.  I have scoured the interwebs and, over the past year or so, have found the best websites ever.  Here they are, in no particular order:

  • Sleep Talkin’ Man – funny as all get out.  Good for a quick chuckle.  Nothing substantial or lengthy ever posted, which is perfect for my attention span.
  • Said the Gramophone – a new mp3 every day, and usually music I’ve never heard or heard of before.  I’d say only about 30% of it is good, but that 30% makes it worthwhile to check every few days.
  • Dallas Clayton – I don’t know how I stumbled upon this guy, but I like him a lot.  He writes poem-ish stuff, a lot of which is really concise and thoughtful.  Quick little ditties, for the most part.  It’s hard not to smile after reading some of them.
  • Improv Everywhere – kind of hokey, but some of their stuff is amusing.  Like the High Five Escalator mission, or the Spontaneous Musicals.
  • The Best Page in the Universe – this guy is crass and obnoxious, so I can only read his posts in small doses, which is good because he doesn’t really update anymore.  But some of his stuff is FUNNY.  But CRASS.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
  • Hyperbole and a Half – sometimes I really enjoy her posts, sometimes they don’t do it for me.  But she’s funny enough in the ones I do enjoy that I have her on my RSS feed.  There are definitely a few posts in there that are full of awesome.  Some notsomuch.  But meh.  That’s pretty much true of any blog.

  • MetaFilter – more commonly known as MEFI.  Seriously, this website is great.  A lot of the stuff people throw up there is worthless, but every once in a while there’s some really great stuff.  Basically it’s one giant forum on which people can post interesting things they find on the internet.  I probably browse through it a few times every day.
  • Gizmodo – because I’m a nerd and I like gadget-y stuff.  If you are not, you won’t be able to appreciate this website.  Also, if that’s the case, I feel sorry for you.
  • Woot – mostly pointless stuff, but every day these guys sell ONE thing for a ridiculously reduced price.  It’s usually stuff I don’t need (like car battery chargers or camera tripods) but every now and then they have a fantastic deal on something really good, like external hard drives or digital cameras or flat screen computer monitors.  One of these days I’m gonna actually buy something off that site.
  • The Frisky – unless you are a woman, you will not appreciate this website.  That’s all.
  • Paste Magazine – full of interesting articles about stuff…mostly music.  Perfect for the aspiring hipster.  While you’re at it, then, head on over to NPR, Nerve, and HuffPost to round out your hipster website education.  Look at that!  I got FOUR of my favorite websites in one bullet point.  Also, for the record, I am NOT a hipster.  I just like to pretend I’m as cool as they are.

This list will continue to be updated as I find more and more intriguing things on the interwebs, so stay tuned, and check back regularly.  In the meantime, happy surfing.
